Critiques

11th april-2010. Esther Neema 07-0146

This program was about the usual mother in laws gossip. I feel that the lighting was a little too bright which made it look almost unnatural, however the lighting was good enough to portray the comedy mood effect that the program is all about, however there was some reflection coming from the mother in laws face, and the daughter in law. I feel more powder could have been added to their faces to reduce reflection.
There was a shot on the aerial, and the a cut in to a shot of sunset, and the later an establishing shot was done. In my opinion, it is not necessary to have shots of the aerial and sunset as the do not add much in to the story. I say this because, right after the shot of the aerial was the shot of sunset and the again in to the house which was a day scene, so it really did not make much senses.
There were good close up shots on the faces of the mother in law, Swapo and the daughter in law, on hearing that the Swapo had an older girlfriend. It was accompanied by good sound effect that captured the essence of shock.
There was cutting from one subject to another which I feel was very appropriate as opposed to panning which would have caused discontinuity of reactions.

This was an episode that was all about the effect pf face book on people. I feel that it is good that this topic was tackled because it is a current issue.
There were a number of medium shots, and especially two medium shots because most of the conversations were dialogue. I would have used the same shots. The rest of the shots were the usual, nothing extra ordinary about them, they are more or less like the ones in the past.

I like the two shot medium shot of people when people are exchanging glances. both of the are in focus the same time which is a clear indication that they are in sync. I like the use of use of the close up shots to establish dramatic effect of the faces. The close up focused on the faces the house boy at the sight of Sandra who is not welcomed in the house, the frowning is brought up well by the close up.
There was a shot where the mother in law puts the lunch box on the table, there is special attention and focus on her putting the lunch box on the table. I feel this was an unnneccesary shot, as the essecec of the lunch box had already been established earlier. It was to show that she had packed lunch for her son. This was an action that did not please her sons wife. This was clear without having to show the container being placed on the table as she had already mentioned and pointed towards it.
